Stay Hydrated During Pregnancy This Summer: Fun Ways to Sip, Savor, and Stay Cool

Updated: Aug 22, 2025

Hey there, mama! ☀️Summer is here in full swing, and while the sun is shining and the days are long, staying hydrated—especially while pregnant—is not just a good idea…it’s essential! 💦

But let’s be real: drinking plain ol’ water all day can get a little boring, right? So let’s shake things up with some fun, flavorful, and creative ways to keep your body cool, your baby happy, and your taste buds satisfied.

As your doula, I'm here to cheer you on and give you some playful hydration hacks that go beyond the basic glass of water. Let’s dive in!

🍓 1. Infused Waters = Spa Day Vibes

Water doesn’t have to be boring! Try tossing in some:

  • Cucumber + mint

  • Strawberry + basil

  • Lemon + lavender

  • Watermelon + lime

Keep a big pitcher in the fridge and rotate flavors throughout the week. It’s like a mini spa retreat every time you take a sip!

🧊 2. Frozen Fruit Cubes

Freeze berries, citrus slices, or herbs in an ice cube tray with a splash of coconut water or juice. Add them to your drinks for a cool boost and a fun little treat when they melt!

Bonus: They look gorgeous in a glass and might even convince you to drink more.

🍉 3. Hydrating Snacks That Work Overtime

Some foods are basically water in disguise:

  • Watermelon (the MVP of summer fruits!)

  • Cucumbers

  • Grapes

  • Oranges

  • Strawberries

  • Celery

Keep them chilled for a refreshing grab-and-go option. You’ll stay hydrated without even thinking about it.

🍹4. Mocktail Magic

Who says you can’t have fun drinks while pregnant? Mix up a bubbly mocktail with:

  • Sparkling water or kombucha (check with your provider!)

  • Fresh fruit juice (pineapple, pomegranate, or citrus)

  • Crushed ice and a cute glass

Throw in a paper umbrella if you’re feeling fancy. Hydration never looked so fun!

🥣 5. Chill Out With Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to sneak in hydration and nutrients. Use a base of:

  • Coconut water

  • Almond or oat milk

  • Greek yogurt

  • Or even just crushed ice!

Add your favorite fruits, a handful of greens, or a spoonful of nut butter, and you’ve got yourself a delicious hydration + nutrition combo.

☁️ 6. Coconut Water: Nature’s Gatorade

Craving electrolytes without the sugary sports drinks? Coconut water is naturally hydrating and full of potassium. Just look for brands with no added sugar. It’s great chilled and sipped solo, or added to smoothies and mocktails.

☀️ 7. Set a Hydration Routine

Your body’s thirst cues might be different while pregnant. Try:

  • Keeping a cute water bottle with you at all times

  • Sipping every time you check your phone

  • Pairing drinks with meals/snacks

  • Setting reminders if you're the forgetful type (it’s the baby brain, we get it!)

💛 Final Sip of Wisdom

Hydration helps with everything from reducing swelling and headaches to supporting amniotic fluid and circulation. Plus, it just makes you feel better.

So whether you're sipping, slurping, or snacking your way through the day—know that every drop is helping you and your baby thrive.

You’re doing amazing, and I’m always here for support (and smoothie recipes 😉).

Stay cool, mama. You’ve got this. 💛
